Granular pattern formation:

We have developed a matlab based simulation using Navier-Stokes-like equation derived by Jenkins and Richman in 1985 to model vertically vibrated granular pattern formation. These simulation capture the qualitative features of these flows and we are currently developing an experiment to test the model quantitatively.
