Title: Intruder interplay in fluid saturated granular media

Author (Snapshot): Benjamin Allen, Clark University

Abstract:

Recently we have found that we can look at a rod's drag in fluid saturated granular media by using the viscous number J and an effective friction coefficient using the ideas of granular rheology. We now examine the effects of dynamic intruders interacting in drag to gain a better picture of the locomotion and movement of macroscopic organisms that live at the bottom of bodies of water allowing for possible reproduction of techniques in robotics as well as how changes in environment effect the living cycles of the organism.
