The Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop (NEGW) is designed to bring researchers and students in the North East (New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) together to discuss their work on granular materials and explore collaborations. The workshop features pedagogical talks, short contributed talks, and poster sessions.

8^th Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop:

The 8^th Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop (NEGW) will be held at Schlumberger-Doll Research Center, Cambridge, MA on June 11^th, 2010. The talks and poster sessions will take place in Schlumberger-Doll Research Center. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be served. The workshop will include four longer pedagogical talks, approximately six contributed talks, and a poster session. The workshop will begin with breakfast and registration from 8:30 - 9:30 AM (with the first talk starting at 9:30 AM) and end around 4:00 PM. This year's Workshop follows the successful traditions of the first eight workshops held at Clark University (2003), Yale University (2004), Wesleyan University (2005), City College of New York (2006), University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2007), Brandeis University (2008), Yale University (2009).

Contributed Talks:

We invite you to submit titles and abstracts for the 15-minute contributed talks and poster sessions. Contributed talks that complement the invited talks will receive first priority with a maximum of one talk per group. The remaining submissions will be presented during the poster sessions. Titles and abstracts can be submitted online. Decisions concerning contributed talks will be made approximately one week before the Workshop. Registration:

All participants must register before June 7, 2010 so that we can accurately estimate food orders. To register, click here and fill out the registration form. The registration fee for the Workshop is $0 (Thanks to Schlumberger-Doll Research Center!), which covers breakfast, refreshment breaks, and lunch. However, if you drive you will have to pay for parking.

Directions and Parking:

Driving directions to SDR and a map of the area are available, or you can do a map search from your point of origin.

Brief Directions: Amtrak, regional trains, and buses (e.g., Greyhound, Peter Pan, Fung Wah) arrive at either Boston South or North Station. From either station the MBTA subway system, the 'T', will take you to the Kendall/MIT stop on the Red Line. Kendall/MIT station is the closest subway/metro stop to SDR. Upon arriving at Kendall/MIT the Marriot Hotel will be visible, either behind you or across the street depending upon the direction from which you came. Its only identifying sign is located at the top of the building, some 20 floors up. Go to Broadway Ave, which borders the Marriot on its other side, away from the T station. You may go through the hotel lobby to get to Broadway. Turn left. About 1/4 mile away there is an overhead-enclosed walkway between two buildings on either side of Broadway. Schlumberger-Doll Research is located in the one on the right. Although the address is One Hampshire, our entrance is on Broadway, just past Galileo Way, on the wrong side of the tracks.
