The Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop (NEGW) is designed to bring researchers and students in the North East (New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) together to discuss their work on granular materials and explore collaborations. The workshop features pedagogical talks, short contributed talks, and poster sessions.

7^th Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop:

The 7^th Northeastern Granular Materials Workshop (NEGW) will be held at Yale University on June 12^th, 2009. The talks and poster sessions will take place in Becton Center Auditorium. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be served. The workshop will include four longer pedagogical talks, approximately six contributed talks, and a poster session. The workshop will begin with breakfast and registration from 9:00 - 10:00 AM (with the first talk starting at 10:00 AM) and end around 4:30 PM. This year's Workshop follows the successful traditions of the first five workshops held at Clark University (2003), Yale University (2004), Wesleyan University (2005), City College of New York (2006), University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2007), Brandeis University (2008).

Contributed Talks:

We invite you to submit titles and abstracts for the 15-minute contributed talks and poster sessions. Contributed talks that complement the invited talks will receive first priority with a maximum of one talk per group. The remaining submissions will be presented during the poster sessions. Titles and abstracts can be submitted online. Decisions concerning contributed talks will be made approximately one week before the Workshop. A list of participants and titles and abstracts of invited talks and contributed talks and posters can be viewed online.

Registration:

All participants must register before June 5, 2009 so that we can accurately estimate food orders. To register, click here and fill out the registration form. The registration fee for the Workshop is $20, which covers breakfast, refreshment breaks, and lunch. The registration can be paid upon arrival.

Directions and Parking:

Driving directions to campus, nearby train stop, and a map of campus are available, or you can do a map search from your point of origin.

Brief Directions: The workshop will be held in Becton Center Auditorium at 15 Prospect Street (enter through Dunham Laboratory on Hillhouse Ave.) It will take about 5 minutes to walk from the parking garage.

Walk South past parking lot 22 at Whitney Ave. and Humphrey St. (Kline Biology Tower and Gibbs Lab will be on your right.) Continue past Kline Geology Lab and Environmental Sciences Center (on your left) to Sachem St.
Cross Sachem St. and walk on right side of Hillhouse Ave.
After crossing Trumbull St. enter Dunham Laboratory on the right. Follow the hall downward to Becton Center Auditorium.

Parking Information: The meeting is in the Becton Center Auditorium. Parking is provided free of charge to all participants in the gated Pierson-Sage garage. Guests must use PIN pad to enter a code to enter and exit the parking lot. The code is 320#, and the # sign must be used. Only limited street parking is available and is not recommended.
